Caol Ila Hidden Malt 12Y
The Caol Ila distillery (pronounced 'Cull Eela') lies in a hidden cove near Port Askaig, Islay, and has been bringing its whisky to market by sea for over a hundred years. Caol Ila is Gaelic for the Sound of Islay, which separates the island from Jura in one of the most remote and beautiful parts of the west coast of Scotland. The distillery was opened in 1846 on the shore of the Sound, a place originally chosen for the clean water from Loch Nam Ban, which is still the main supplier. Fuller, more intense flavour due to additional maturation compared to its younger counterparts. It has spicy, briny notes, peppery flavours and a complex, well-rounded finish reminiscent of an afterglow campfire. This single malt won a gold medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 2008/2009. All you need to enjoy this great 12 Year Old Caol Ila is a glass.
The clear, attractive nose shows subtle citrus fruits with a little smoke. Firm and supple, it starts sweet and then moves on to fragrant smokiness and a sweet-smoky, lingering finish. This single malt was chosen as the winner of the silver medal in the Outstanding category at the 2015 International Wines & Spirits Competition. Coal Ila is the ultimate Islay malt and is regarded by experts as the perfect starting count of peaty malt whiskies and a reference point for connoisseurs of Ilsay single malt Scotch whiskies around the world. Best drunk straight with a little water and/or ice.
