This Nero d'Avola is the top wine from Feudi Montoni. Vrucara, a vineyard of barely 5 ha, is the heart of this domain. This is the plot where Nero d'Avola was also grown 600 ago. The unique rare clone still retains the genetic properties of the original planting, protected from all possible contamination due to its isolated location. The vines here are at least 75 years old.
The color is intense red, ruby with violet sparkles. The nose is deep, warm and complex. Fragrant aromas of violets, nutmeg, black plums and dates seduce the senses. Spices such as vanilla, balsamic vinegar and eucalyptus put the finishing touches. The taste is an equally fantastic experience. Here you can taste figs, plums and blackberries in a mouth-filling whole. Very typical of this unique clone is the spicy, spicy touch of chocolate and nutmeg. This ultimate Nero d'Avola is extremely elegant and fine with sublime, velvety tannins to round off.
Vinous - Antonio Galloni - Nero d'Avola Vrucara 2014 - 91 + / 100
Dark red with a hint of amber at the rim. Spicy red cherry and plums with underbrush, licorice and herbs adding depth and complexity. Enters bright and juicy, then turns more tactile and tough with a core of smooth but assertive tannins providing support to the red fruit and herbal flavors. Finishes long but slightly youthfully clenched. Made with organic grapes from pre-phylloxera Nero d'Avola bush vines, this really needs to be cellared a few more years. The fermentation is carried out in cement containers with a long maceration of 25 days on the skins. Native yeasts only are used and the wine ages 45 months in cement tanks, six months in oak barrel and six months in bottle prior to release for sale.
The Wine Advocate - Robert Parker 96/100
Fabio Sireci farms one of the most beautiful vineyard spots in Italy that overlooks an infinite expanse of vines and shifting waves of grain over softly rolling hills in inland Sicily. On a cloudy day, you can watch the magnificent peek-a-boo of brilliant sunbeams shine over the landscape as if you were in front of a life-sized movie screen. Those beautiful images always come to mind when I drink this wine. Tasted from magnum, the 2014 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Vrucara is maturing beautifully and slowly. The wine is dark and ripe at its core, but it shows a delicate framing of cola, dried rosemary, scorched earth, smoke, wild mushroom and fragrant rose hip. The bouquet is fluid and ever moving — much like that Sicilian landscape I described above — offering new layers of aromas with every swirl of the glass. In the mouth, the wine is fresh and very alive.
