Cantine Menhir was founded in 2000 by the Maragnelli brothers. It is located in the picturesque village of Minervino de Lecce, which is full of medieval buildings and parks full of Dolmen and Mehirs. The brothers want to demonstrate that tradition and innovation are not mutually exclusive. They grow 10 ha of vineyards with traditional grape varieties such as Primitivo & Negramaro, but they also experiment with less known grape varieties such as Verdeca, Minutolo and Susumaniello.
Grape: 100% Primitivo from vineyards with red clay (Terra Rossa) and lime.
Winemaking: The grapes are harvested by hand. After a gentle pressing, a long mashing followed by a classic vinification in stainless steel barrels. The wine is refined for another 6 months in 600 l oak barrels.
View: Intense ruby red with purple hues
Nose & mouth: A pleasantly fruity nose with lots of ripe cherries, blackberry berries, spicy notes and a hint of eucalyptus. On the palate, this wine is juicy and playful with lots of fruit, soft tannins and the perfect amount of acidity.
Serve with: Ideal with cured meat (soppressa, bacon), grilled vegetables, lamb and pasta al ragut. Also very successful with matured cheeses.
